Not ending sentences with prepositions (…From which Canadians could learn…). But seriously…
Metal screens – cats can’t destroy them, they’re secure and easy to clean! Try it!
Power outlets that can be switched off
Vacation – most people get 4 weeks of vacation with any job. If you work for the same company for 10 years, you get 2 months of what’s called long-service leave. Good job Australia.
Road rage doesn’t seem as prevalent here. There is a more relaxed, easy-going vibe – we’ll get there when we get there.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – having taxes built into the sticker price is like being freed from something you didn’t even know was oppressing you. Does it say $19.99 on the sticker? Then that’s how much money you will have to pay. Genius.
The date. That’s right. I said the date. In Australia, now this is a true story: EVERYONE USES THE EXACT SAME STANDARD DATE ORDER. No matter what state you go to, no matter what company you’re filling out paperwork for, the date always goes:
(Smallest to largest). There is no confusion here if reads 06/07/2019. Every last person here will know for a fact that that is the 6th day of July. Come on Canada. Pull yourselves together. Standardise this.
Tipping. Or rather, the absence of tipping is another magical feature of this magical island. Here, you don’t tip your massage therapist. You don’t tip your cab driver. You don’t tip your bellhop. You don’t tip your waitress. I could go on. I will go on. You don’t tip your babysitter. You don’t tip the mail delivery driver. You don’t tip your hair-dresser. It’s wonderful.
Data for phone plans. I have 30 GB of data for my mobile phone, which runs me $40 a month. We have literal unlimited data for our home which costs $60 a month – $100 a month for all the data I could ever use. Not capped, no data dieting, no slow-downs if you go over 50 GB. It’s great! By my calculations, the same service in Canada, with Telus or Bell would run me approximately $4932.25 a month.
There are probably more. I’ll update as I think of them.
